Outside of greenhouse gas emissions, the main emissions relevant to our operations are dust generated by stockpiling, moving materials and from vehicles driving on unsealed surfaces. There has been a slight increase in particulates this year due to ongoing major construction. Oxides of sulphur and nitrogen are generated from the burning of fuels. There are no-ozone depleting substances, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) or hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) produced at our sole operation, Prominent Hill. Air emissions by type and weight for Prominent Hill are provided in the table below.
Data has been collected for key emissions to air from stationary and mobile sources. These emissions are reported annually to the Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Population and Communities National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) and are available for public viewing on the NPI website, www.npi.gov.au.
