OZ Minerals recognises that our successes and future are dependent upon our people. The skills, knowledge and continued engagement of our employees and contractors are essential to OZ Minerals as a modern resources company.
This year has seen continued growth in the mining sector and a continued high demand for skilled labour. The number of jobs advertised in the mining sector is increasing and there is intense competition for talent. OZ Minerals is continuing to actively develop initiatives and programs that attract and retain employees.
In 2011, OZ Minerals has continued its strong record of employing locally, and training and developing people from outside the industry. OZ Minerals’ commitment to employing people locally is demonstrated by 84 percent of employees coming from South Australia, a new contract with an indigenous run local business and our highly successful pre-employment training program.
At the close of 2011, our workforce, including contractors, was approximately 1,300, with approximately 1,200 people based at Prominent Hill. OZ Minerals directly employs approximately 430 people, with the majority based at Prominent Hill. We have a corporate office in Melbourne, an administration office in Adelaide and exploration divisions in Carrapateena and Cambodia*.
* The Cambodian assets were sold to Renaissance Minerals in early 2012.
