Sustainability
management standards

The OZ Minerals Sustainability Management Standards are a comprehensive set of standards for the management of the safety, health, environmental and social aspects of our business. These standards apply to all phases of mine life and are subject to periodic review to ensure we continue to meet the needs of OZ Minerals, are aligned to relevant legislation and reflect industry best practice standards.

Our major contractors have requirements in their contracts consistent with the OZ Minerals Code of Conduct and Safety, Health, Environment and Community Management Standards. Our contractors are required to undertake a comprehensive program of general and work site inductions to develop a clear understanding of the requirements of working at our sites. All high risk contracts are required to submit a Safety, Health, Environment and Community Management Plan that describes the operational controls that are to be implemented to manage significant risks. We require our contractors to adhere to our values of Respect, Integrity, Action and Results, and maintain behaviour that ensures the safety of our workforce.

A major review of our standards was conducted in 2011. The review updated standards to ensure they covered OZ Minerals controlled activities and operations, including exploration and all phases of the mine life cycle (design, construction, operation, decommissioning, rehabilitation and closure). The standards were consolidated and changes and additions were made as necessary.
