Culture

OZ Minerals has a social culture, with an active social calendar. At Prominent Hill, we have many social clubs that run games nights, fundraising events and other group activities. We participate in community events such as the Breakaways Bolt fun run and local sports.

We understand that families are the basis for support for many of our employees and we hold regular family days to allow our families to experience mine site life.

Training

We provide an ongoing, mixed method approach to learning to support the development of our employees. This involves workshops, coaching, facilitated career development discussions and online learning to allow our employees achieve their career goals. Study assistance and study leave are also available to OZ Minerals employees interested in undertaking a qualification to further their career.

We invest in our employees through a range of innovative training programs. One of our most successful programs is the pre-employment training program for local and indigenous people. This program gives people who have not had industry experience the opportunity to gain a qualification, work experience and ultimately employment at our Prominent Hill operation. To date, there have been seven successful pre-employment programs run since 2006 and a total of 59 graduates have graduated from the program. In 2010 this training and employment program earned us the Diversity@Work Small to Medium Organisation Award for “Employment and Inclusion of Indigenous Australians”.

Community Involvement

We engage openly and honestly with local communities to ensure that they receive real benefit from our activities. We have an active community engagement program that includes our pre-employment training program, as well as a major partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and sponsorship of local community initiatives. We support over 20 local businesses through contracts for mine-related services.

OZ Minerals' operations and offices are located in regions that give you the freedom to live the life you love, while pursuing a successful and rewarding career. Our Prominent Hill operation is accessible by a one hour flight, departing from the main terminal in Adelaide and a one hour flight from Port Augusta. Our Prominent Hill village has a range of modern facilities to help you make the most of your time onsite.

Our employee village is comprised of ensuited cabins equipped with Austar TV and air conditioning. We supply great food in our dedicated dining hall, complete with food theme nights. We serve a range of buffet-style food, including hot and cold meals. Our wet mess provides our staff with the means to cool off and relax after a hard day’s work, as well as selling snacks, magazines and personal items.

We have a range of sports facilities and services including:

  • Fully equipped cardio and weight gymnasium.
  • Tennis and ball courts.
  • Daily health classes, such as yoga.

Opportunity and the chance to take it

We offer a range of positions at our Prominent Hill site within our departments of operations, processing, exploration, projects and environment. With our new underground development complementing our existing open pit mining operation, there are prospects for employees to gain exposure to a different style of mining. We have one of the largest exploration projects in Australia – in 2012 we expect to spend $70 million on exploration around the Prominent Hill region. We are already employing people for our new Carrapateena project, also in South Australia.
