20 Nov 2009

On Saturday 24 October over 100 family members from Prominent Hill’s workforce travelled to site for Prominent Hill’s first family day to experience life on a mining site. Two Alliance air charters flew family members from Adelaide and Port Augusta and a number drove from Coober Pedy.

The Prominent Hill Family Day was organised so family can gain a better understanding of site life, conditions and the environment. in which their loved ones work in everyday.

Visitors were families of employees of OZ Minerals, Thiess, Sodexo and other contractors based at Prominent Hill, with the youngest visitor to site only six months old.

Activities on the day included a tour of the processing plant and pit as well as the opportunity to use some of the new facilities at the Prominent Hill village including swimming pool, table tennis, cricket and tennis courts. A clown, fairy and face painter also flew in for the day to entertain children.

“The Prominent Hill Family Day was a great opportunity not only for families to spend the day together but also to allow them to experience the unique life on a mine site.” Executive General Manager Operations, Mick Wilkes.

Everyone had an enjoyable time and it was a real eye opener for those who had never visited a mine site before.
