OZ Minerals is a global modern mining company. We accept the international scientific consensus presented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), recognise the 2015 Paris Agreement and support the commitment to limit global average temperature rise to below 2°C.
OZ Minerals recognises that climate change is a shared global challenge. We are committed to playing our part in reducing carbon emissions and preparing for the impacts of climate change and the actions needed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
OZ Minerals recognises there is a need for large reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions to reduce the extent of future climate change and avoid the most severe impacts. This, coupled with the world’s increasing requirements for secure, affordable energy, create significant challenges which are best met by companies, governments and society working together.
OZ Minerals identifies climate change as a strategic risk. Climate change is listed in our Annual and Sustainability report as a strategic risk that could affect OZ Minerals’ future operating and financial performance.
OZ Minerals is currently preparing a roadmap for reporting of integrated climate change risks and climate-related financial disclosures in line with the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) framework. The TCFD framework will also provide a process to gain a better understanding of physical and financial climate-related threats and opportunities which can then be further integrated into our company standards and policies.
In January 2016, 193 UN member states adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals and their related targets address the most important sustainability challenges and can stimulate worldwide transformational change.
OZ Minerals recognises that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline the most important sustainability challenges for the world. We are future focussed and consider scenarios around global megatrends, such as climate change, globalisation, digitalisation and automation, and how these will impact our operations. The SDGs broaden our view and provide a framework for us to contribute towards achieving these global goals and becoming a global modern mining company.
